“Everyone believes in each other”; Brandon King opens up about being the player of the tournament in CPL 2022

An unbeaten Half Century from opener Brandon King helped Jamaica Tallawahs script an incredible turnaround to clinch the 2022 Caribbean Premier League title.

The Tallawahs also became the first team to win the championship after finishing fourth in the league stage.

Brandon King played a masterful knock of 83* off 50 balls with 13 fours and two sixes, helping the Tallawahs win with 23 balls to spare.

After opting to bat first, the Royals, who were once on a six-match winning streak in the tournament, posted a challenging target of 162 for the Tallawahs to chase down.

The Tallawahs made a terrible start to their run-chase after Mayers got rid of Kennar Lewis for a golden duck.

However, an 86-run stand between King and Shamarh Brooks brought them back into the contest.

While Brooks got out on 47, King went on to score his half-century off 36 balls. King also finished as the leading run-scorer in CPL 2022, having racked up over 400 runs.

As well, Brandon King was named the Hero of the tournament, At the Post Match presentation, he said he had a goal before the tournament started.

“Obviously I set goals for myself before the tournament. One was to win the trophy and then to end up as the highest run-scorer too was amazing. I was match ready. Brooks played a fantastic innings at the start, he kept us going towards the score. [Comparing 2019 and 2022 seasons] I am happy with both, this one more because we won the title. There is no special formula, just work hard, believe in your ability and back yourself. The team is amazing. Everyone believes in each other. We stuck together through the highs and lows.”

After he got to his fifty, King upped the ante and made sure that the Royals weren’t able to make a comeback into the game.
