Former RCB skipper Virat Kohli on Sunday (March 26) disclosed that they used to call Chris Gayle the joker in the dressing room.
Kohli’s comment came while speaking at an event organized by RCB to retire Gayle’s and AB de Villiers’ jerseys and induct them into their Hall of Fame.
“It’s great to be back here. It’s an honor for me to be alongside two of my great friends, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers, people I’ve become close with during my time with RCB,” said Kohli.
As soon as the iconic RCB trio made their way into the Chinnaswamy Stadium, the fans present at the venue went ballistic as they made loud cheers.
Kohli heaped praise on the RCB fan base, saying there is a pure connection between fans and the Bangalore players.
“It is phenomenal what this franchise and this fan base has done over the years because these two guys are from different countries and look at what amount of love they’ve received and accepted them as their own. This is beyond the game, this is beyond what we do on the field. This is pure connect that’s why we mean it when we say that we have the best fans in the world. This is what they do to the players,” he added.
Kohli revealed that they used to refer Gayle as the joker as the latter would always crack jokes and make people laugh. He also reiterated his love for De Villiers while speaking at the event.
“We’ve had great memories on the field together. We used to call Chris ‘The Joker’ in the dressing room, always cracking jokes and making people laugh. And what do I say about AB, I meant it when I said that I love De Villiers,” said Kohli.
During the event called “RCB Unbox”, the Bangalore-based franchise also unveiled jerseys for the upcoming Indian Premier League season.
RCB will open their IPL 2023 campaign against Mumbai Indians (MI) at Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 2.
