“We are confident about winning the series” – Babar Azam opens up ahead of series against West Indies

The three-match ODI series between Pakistan and the West Indies will be played on June 8, 10 and 12 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Ground.

The ODIs were scheduled to be played after the T20 series in December last year, but had to be postponed due to the confirmation of several COVID-19 patients by the West Indies team and support staff.

It was later officially confirmed that the ODI series would be held in June this year.

The West Indies were whitewashed by Pakistan in the three-match T20I series in December.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) earlier this month said that the upcoming three-match One Day Internationals will be a day-night affair due to the heatwave in the country.

Commenting on the series, Babar said on Tuesday that the tournament would not be an easy task as the extreme heat would make it difficult for both teams.

He further stated that He is confident that Pakistan will comfortably win against the West Indies in the home series.

“We are confident about winning the series against West Indies. It is not easy to play in high temperatures which is why players are putting in the hard yards in the ongoing conditioning camp,” said Babar Azam while speaking to the media at the National High-Performance Center in Lahore as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

Babar Azam remarked that Pakistan has important series coming up and performing well will also help them prepare for the T20 World Cup later this year.

“We have a fairly long cricket season. After West Indies, we have to go on an important tour of Sri Lanka. We have a series against England and more importantly the T20 World Cup as well,” Babar added.

While talking about the series against West Indies, Babar said that he will continue to lead from the front to set an example for the rest to follow.

“I always try to perform in a manner which helps the team. Planning is important when playing in different conditions. I also try to remain calm when I enter the field,” he said.

Meanwhile,  The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Monday named the 16-member squad for the three ODI matches against West Indies
