“We saw Alzarri just bowling thunderbolts,” David Warner recalled of the 2016 net session

Joseph, 26, made his debut for the West Indies in 2016 and has been said by many pundits to possess the talents to be one of the bowlers to not only lead the team forward, but also possibly achieve a similar legacy to past players such as his compatriot Sir Curtly Ambrose, and Jamaica’s Courtney Walsh.

As a 19-year-old, Joseph caught the eye of Australia when he charged in for 90 minutes during a net session against the tourists during a tri-series in the Caribbean in 2016.

Then-caretaker coach Justin Langer compared Joseph’s run in to Usain Bolt’s sprinting, while also remarking on similarities between the youngster and Andre Russell.

“We saw him just bowling thunderbolts,” David Warner recalled of the 2016 net session.

“On those wickets, they were quite glassy and a bit ridgey, it was a bit daunting. We just didn’t know where he’d come from.”

Joseph debuted for the West Indies two months after that session and has since taken 62 wickets in 22 Tests while also impressing in white-ball cricket.

“He was young back then. It’s good to see him evolve from then. He’s a fantastic bowler, he’s got a good record,” Warner said.

“I faced him in the IPL when he first came in and took (six wickets) against us. He’s an exciting young talent.

“That’s what West Indies cricket needs, they need guys coming in bowling at high speeds.

“Hopefully the wickets get back to what they were in the ’80s and ’90s in the Caribbean.”
