Woodland Sports Club has roped in the talent and experience of former West Indies cricket captain and wicketkeeper Dinesh Ramdin to revive the South Zone.
Ramdin, arguably the best glover in the Caribbean during his career, is considered the new face of the popular club. 37-year-old Ramdin is also nicknamed “Shotter”.
According to Woodland’s Treasurer SC Stephen Ramkissoon, their next step is to finish with the winners of the Central Zone Senior Division for promotion to Premier League II (Southern Zone) which he said could be achieved this season.
“Our aim is to play a different brand of cricket and make Woodland a powerhouse in the South Zone. We think the addition of Ramdin and a couple other really exceptional cricketers will help us get there.”
Ramdin played 74 Tests for the regional team and scored 2898 runs with 4 centuries and 15 fifties. Also, he has scored 2200 runs in 139 ODIs with two centuries and two half-centuries.
Also, He holds the record for the highest score by a West Indies keeper in One-Day Internationals (139), and the second highest in Tests (166).
Ramkissoon said that Shazam Babwa, who has played for Trinidad and Tobago and has an outstanding record in domestic cricket, will be roped in by Woodland to provide valuable support.
Ramkissoon is looking for sponsors to cover the club’s expenses.
“We are hoping that Woodland SC can secure sponsorship to facilitate the development of our young cricketers and help as defray the costs associated with our mission.”
