WI Championship XI vs South Africa: Chanderpaul, Kemar Roach and Smith selected for warm-up duties against South Africa

Cricket West Indies (CWI) is pleased to announce the West Indies Championship XI, set to compete in a warm-up fixture against South Africa from 31 July to 3 August.

Guyanese Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Isai Thorne, and Nial Smith have been included and Four Trinidad and Tobago players have been selected for the West Indies Championship XI squad, Batsmen Amir Jangoo and Jeremy Solozano, fast bowler Anderson Phillip, and off-spinner Bryan Charles are on the squad.

Solozano and Phillip have been capped previously by the West Indies, while Jangoo and Charles are uncapped.

Justin Greaves will captain the squad, with Keacy Carty as vice-captain.

Former West Indies captain Floyd Reifer has been appointed head coach of the team.

In a media release, Cricket West Indies (CWI) stated that the match was a crucial opportunity to engage players who have “either demonstrated consistent performance over multiple seasons or have shown impressive emerging talent.”

“The selection of these players is part of CWI’s strategy to evaluate the readiness of potential squad members for the upcoming West Indies vs South Africa Home Test Series. The focus is on assessing their battle readiness and potential contributions to the men’s Test team,” the media release added.

CWI Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe, stated that he was excited to see the players in action against South Africa.

“This fixture is a valuable opportunity to assess their readiness and gauge their potential for the upcoming Test series. Each player selected has shown significant promise, and we are eager to see how they perform on this stage,” he said.
