Womens World Cup 2022: West Indies spinner Afy Fletcher tests positive for COVID-19, to miss semifinal against Australia

The West Indies have qualified for the semi-finals of the Women’s World Cup in New Zealand. That was because the South African women’s team won the decisive match between India and South Africa by 03 wickets.

However, Afy Fletcher will miss the upcoming semi-final match against Australia, which takes place at the Basin Reserve in Wellington on Wednesday (March 30). That’s because West Indies spinner Afy Fletcher has tested positive for COVID-19. Afy Fletcher is currently in isolation after contracting COVID-19 and will be replaced by Mandy Mangru.

The replacement of an athlete requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the replacement can be officially added to the squad. Accordingly, the event technical committee for the 2022 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup has approved Mandy Mangru to replace Afy Fletcher in the West Indies squad.

Afy Fletcher, the decisive player in the semi-final match against Australia, has taken 04 wickets in three matches at the ICC World Cup, and her best wicket was 29 for 03 in 10 overs against Bangladesh.

Twenty-two-year-old Mandy Mangru, who traveled to New Zealand as a touring squad, will play his first match for the West Indies against South Africa last month.

The Australian women’s team played seven matches in the tournament, winning all seven. The West Indies will play the undefeated Australia in the semi-finals on March 30.
